SQUEAKING FRONT BRAKES. X7420

You are aware of the trouble which we ran into as soon as we increased the braking on the SS. {S. Smith} Although we still have much less braking on the front than on the rear of our cars we are in continual trouble with front brake squeaks. The front brake drums are thin and have no flange. We feel this is the main reason that we have such trouble.

Originally, we went to the thin drum to avoid front axle jaggers, now we have axle control so that this trouble cannot occur.

We should like to test front brake drums having increased section fitted with a flange.

As far as we can see on the chassis it should be possible to fit a small flange and retain the present squeak damper. We consider this alteration might help us to utilise some of the large quantity of rear brake lining which at the moment it appears may be scrapped.
