Vickers} 13.8.37. S E C R E T . WRAITH III FRONT SUSPENSION. We have now completed the machining on one pair of cast steel main lever housings produced by Messrs. Gabriel. On perusal of the attached photographs, it will be observed that considerable porosity exists on all surfaces; furthermore, certain sections failed to machine up to the specified dimension. Whilst being far from satisfied with the general condition of these pieces, we are fitting a pair of housings to the Bumper/Chassis, with the object of ascertaining their capability to withstand abnormal loading. These housings have been tinned all over to prevent oil leakage at the porous sections. The condition of these castings has been taken up with the makers, who are endeavouring to overcome the defects in question, but it is apparent that at the present time steel castings are far from being a production proposition.
