| 422 HV/RS {Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} c. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 4/G.23.12.38. WHTMAN B.V. CHASSIS. ENGINE REAR SUSPENSION. Please receive herewith blueprints of schemes as follows :- G.CD.1060 Engine Rear Suspension. G.CD.1111 Engine Tie Rod. The engine rear suspension differs from the present suspension in that it is at the rear of the gearbox instead of at the front. It has the original Wraith rubber G.CD.113 for supporting and in addition has a torque rubber on each side of the box. The torque rubbers are connected to the box by means of a cross member attached to the gearbox rear cover. To enable the gear box to be taken down with the body in position, the adjacent body runner should be moved back .250. The tie rod shown on G.CD.1111 is, with the exception of the rod and bracket, the same as previously used for B.111, G.CD.543. With the tie rod moved to the centre line of the box it has been found necessary to revise the position of the drain plug. In view of recent results with the flexible flywheel, it seems probable that this suspension in its entirety will not now be required. Consequently, the only parts which should be detailed are the sheet metal arm attached to the upper part of the gearbox cover, to carry the upper rubbers, the upper rubbers themselves with their containing cups and the adjusting screws and brackets. The suspension probably adopted will have the existing cross member and weight carrying rubber in their present position, with the inclined rubbers and brackets omitted.
