| SECRET 607. To BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to AHS. Mr. Per. Mr. Dan. Mr. Hives. Mr. JS. {Mr Johnson's Secretary} Mr. TB. File F.Smith E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /PBN.5/MN.24.3.37. Camshaft Balancer, Wraith III. The three tappet guides ER.1117 on the camshaft balancer which are common to Bentley, 25/30 and Wraith III, cost 17.25/- allowing for 175% charges. The guide is made in 5% casehardening nickel steel and as the side thrust which it has to take is considerably less than that taken by the aluminium tappet guides on Phantom III we consider that a casehardened surface is unnecessary, and propose making these parts as BZ/FC castings. Will BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please modify the detail for trial on Wraith III accordingly. If successful the alteration can also be applied to Bentley. The reduction in cost should be at least 50%. E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /PBN. | ||
