| COPY FOR BRAKES GENERAL FILE. 1089 To Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /MHR. {M. H. Rigby} GIRLING WEDGE UNITS. New Hudson's were inclined to belittle the possibilities of chromium plating the plungers and cones as they have no plant at their new works; but they have one at their old factory which is still on their hands. One expensive suggestion was to fit phosphor bronze bushes to the housings, but they seem rather to favour stainless steel plungers for our special C.l. hydraulic units, or anodising of the Standard Aluminium housings supplied by them. This anodising is presumably a patented process which is done outside, and is specified in their government contracts for stopping corrosion, especially where salt is encountered. It takes the form of a thin coloured film and would not affect the clearances. It is only suitable for the aluminium housings on the mechanical type brakes. On a production basis, the cost would be about 1½d per housing. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /MHR. {M. H. Rigby} | ||
