For your information please note that we have recently been corresponding on the subject of Identification marks painted on petrol tanks of [redacted] vehicles.

Attached for your information is copy of a letter from the Ministry of Transport to the Local Taxation Officer.

Sales Dept., have arrived at the conclusion that it would not be a wise plan to continue to deliver new cars with the number displayed at the rear in a manner which is not strictly in accordance with the Law, and they have decided to fix an aluminium plate at both the front and rear.

They point out that the petrol tank of a 40/50 HP. is curved and whilst they think any reasonable person would not consider the curve sufficient to render a painted number difficult to read, it would certainly give a loop-hole to over-zealous police officials.
