THICKNESS LIMITS - BRAKE DRUMS. -------------------------- Skimming out for Service use. From time to time brake drums are lightly skimmed out at this Depot for trueing up purposes. On some of the earlier cars the position will soon arise for a diametrical limit to be set as a safety factor to which these drums may be skimmed. The braking diameter is 12" and the approximate thickness of the material to the bottom of the fin is approximately 3/16". To what diametrical standard do you consider we should go before considering the drum is scrap from a safety point of view? Your opinion and instructions on this matter would be appreciated.
