Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. C.T. Salt With reference to the small Automatic Jet Control which you returned under cover of your Advice Note No. WG {Mr Gill - Financial Director} /F49418 and which has since been sent back to you, we would explain that when we examined this instrument we found the Thermostat itself in sound condition, but the rolling rubber gland ring, which we explained to you in the early stages of our discussion that we had to use because we had no moulded rubber bellows available, had broken, and you were getting an air leak through the gland. We were very surprised to find this rubber ring damaged, as although we admit it is not a gland which will last as long as rubber bellows, nevertheless, it should have lasted sufficiently long for your test. It is possible that in making your experiment you had occasion to dismantle the unit and unless the parts were attached in the correct rotation the rolling rubber gland ring would be damaged. We therefore wish to warn you not to dismantle this unit if you can possibly manage to avoid doing so. We hope that the rolling ring will last long enough for your test in order to prove the theory. It is, of course, understood that if you were interested in this device we should use a rubber bellows, as employed in our standard and larger model, and which has given entire satisfaction. Yours faithfully, p.p. S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LIMITED. WP. To avoid delay all envelopes should be addressed to the firm. | ||
