Many thanks for your letter of the 9th. inst. and your criticisms of the specification of the above body. Most of these were dealt with during the writer's visit to your Works. We will deal with them in the order of your letter. 1) The body shell construction for which you ask details to be given to you, should follow that in our book called "Recommendations to Coach-builders" for Phantom III in general, the body being a wooden shell panelled in aluminium and reinforced with sheet steel as mentioned in the specification. 2) We have considered the use of AC stone shields and after consultation with our Experimental Department we are of the opinion that these are not so satisfactory as the standard variety in as much as they do not protect the felt from becoming very wet and filled solid with mud. We have a set on B.56.BN {W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} which have exhibited these disadvantages as well as the fact that they become so heavy that they sag. 3) We confirm that you say that it is impossible to obtain Ternstedt door dovetails either of American manufacture or in a form of an English copy. We therefore agree to the use of Silent Travel locks for this car. | ||
