FLEXIBLE FLYWHEELS RM. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 498 & RM. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 533. WRAITH AND BENTLEY. We are anxious to test the deflection of the above wheels under two conditions - (a) The twist when loaded on one side only. (b) The deflection parallel to axis when loaded uniformly about centre. (a) It will be necessary to mount the wheel on a rigid bed, the flexible disc being rigidly clamped between two washers 4.550" dia. see rough sketch attached, the centre bolt should be at least 2". Suspend known weights from one of the flywheel bolts on one side only, and measures the deflection (in twist) by two clocks. If the clocks are mounted on a bar as shown in sketch, error due to deflection of the bed will be eliminated. (b) Mount the wheel as above, but load with weights placed on upper side of wheel equally distributed about centre, and clock the deflection parallel to axis. NOTE. One wheel Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 533, is now in the shop almost ready for fitting to 8.B.V. (unit B.111.J) please test this wheel as soon as possible to avoid delaying the unit. The other wheel Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 498 is now on 29.G.VI. please test this next time the flywheel is dismantled from car. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /NRC. {N. R.
