| COPY. 5 - DETERMINATION OF TORQUE, POWER & CONSUMPTION CURVES AT FULL THROTTLE. The torques, powers and consumptions developed by the engine at various engine speeds at full throttle are measured. The variations in the engine speed are obtained by operating the brake. Allowance is made for power and torque, to convert them to normal atmospheric conditions, as follows: H = 760, h = 0, t = 15°, by means of the formula given under Air 6.101. Their readings are taken at each of the following engine speeds: 10% above nominal engine speed, nominal engine speed; 10% below nominal engine speed, and at lower engine speeds, down to 70% of nominal speed. The minimum number of these engine speeds is 8. Should the compression of the engine be such that at ground level, it cannot stand full throttle, the power curves are determined in sufficiently rarefied atmosphere to ensure the normal running of the engine. The power curves at full throttle in the open or in rarefied atmosphere, are taken as a basis for determining the equivalent horse power of the prototype engine. Furthermore, the same readings referred to at the end of the previous sub-heading (power consumption curves) should be taken for each point of this curve. | ||
