For the attention of Mr. Harris.

Dear Sirs,

Re Silentbloc Bushes.

We have a suggestion for attaching the independent front wheel suspension as a unit to the main frame of our chassis by means of Silentbloc bushes.

The attachment is shown on the print of W.Sch.5114 herewith.

Since the forward two bushes are on the centre line of the front wheel they alone take the dead load of the chassis which amounts to about 500 lbs. per bush. We have used bush R.2134 which is listed for a load of 365 lbs. and we suggest that this bush would be capable of taking the increased load, in as much as they have no angular movement to deal with. When braking, this load is materially increased and may reach an amount per bush of approximately 1800 lbs., but it will be appreciated that this is the maximum and only occurs very rarely.

We would be glad to have your views on these matters and also to hear from you whether it will be possible to change the type or the durometer of the rubber should it be found that this size of bush R.2134 is overloaded in our scheme. We do not wish, for design reasons, to go to a bigger diameter of outer shell or a longer shell to the Silentbloc bush.

Yours faithfully,

For and on behalf of
ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.,
