| R.R.A. 160-1 16M-2-1-23 45625 ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. PROPOSED STANDARDIZATION OF CHASSIS PARTS No. 25 Alteration No. 4188/A Date November 1st, 1925 To Mr. Belnap The following is proposed: PIECE NOS. AFFECTED: E-17765 SECTION NO.: 5040 NAME OF PARTS: Gudgeon Pin Signatures implying agreement with the alteration: NAME INITIALS DATE Mr. Olley Oy Oct. 20 Mr. Nadin TN " " Mr. Bagnall Bg " " Mr. Hulley WHH " " Mr. Southern JS {Mr Johnson's Secretary} " " Mr. Caswell EWC " " Mr. Ross ACR " " Mr. Beaver HCB " " Mr. Belnap LJB " " Mr. Harkness THH Mr. Royce Mr. Johnson DESCRIPTION of Alteration: To thicken up the gudgeon pin by reducing the bore from .750 to .625. PURPOSE of Alteration: To increase the life of the engine without overhaul by reducing the distortion of the pin by the locking screw. It has been demonstrated that the locking screw distorts the pin and that this results in the case of screws E-20096 in rapid wear of the little end bush and in the case of the older screws E-17766 in a tendency of the pin to hammer loose in the piston bosses. Handwritten text: version to older practice except the extra stiffness of pin. We propose to put this alteration into regular manufacture on December 30, 1925 unless we hear from Mr. Johnson and Mr. Royce to the contrary. Tested: Not tested. This is a re- Estimated cost: No increase Proposed Chassis at which alteration should start: 950. Cost of parts scrapped, if any: None Increase in weight, if any: 4% increase in reciprocating masses. 2.6 oz. per piston. | ||
