X 30146 - Noisy Dynamos. I am in receipt of EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 's note, Er6/F6.5.20, and desire to urge upon all concerned the necessity of making arrangements for adequately testing dynamos in batches of 20 to 40, as they come in from the Lucas Electrical Co.Ltd. I am in receipt of a letter from the Lucas Electrical Co.Ltd. confirming their willingness to send their representative here to be present at the tests. Their letter further states that they are hopeful that very shortly this procedure will be unnecessary. They state they have gone to a lot of trouble to combat the ball bearing noise and they have had a Conference with Messrs.Hoffmann, with the result that certain modifications have been introduced into their assembly which will diminish largely the number of rejects. They wish to know how we are placed for stock, as they are anxious to take certain machines from test and fit new ball bearings, a procedure which would cause about a week's delay. I have written that ball bearing noise is not the only noise we complain of. I have also informed them that, as we have in stock more than two weeks supply of dynamos, they are at liberty to carry out their scheme of fitting new ball bearings to machines now on test at their Works, provided this does not delay delivery more than one week.
