SS. {S. Smith} Chassis. Brakes.

I understand that you are proposing side-by-side brakes on the rear wheels, and that these also are being produced for "Phantom" at the present time. I am aware that considerable weight appears to be saved by this form of construction xxx instead of brake pulleys being concentric, but the point I want to make clear is as to whether we shall be able to avoid much of the inconvenience and trouble arising from the side-by-side brakes such as show themselves with the 20 h.p. model. I refer to the fact that when the part most used by foot braking has become worn the consequent turning down of the surface has to be carried right through, thus in a short time leaving so thin a wall that deterioration with all its attendent troubles takes place when the brake is applied.

Are you satisfied that we shall be able to effect this in future as I look upon it as being a very serious consideration.
