Stud F.7374. This stud, I am informed by our Condenser Dept, is quite satisfactory as shown on the detail drawing, and needs no correction.

Dealing now with the condensers which broke down under the flashing test, it must be admitted by us that this test was not one originally specified by us, and secondly, it is of such a nature that apparently any of the condensers would break down under it, if switched on and off a sufficient number of times.

We have therefore cut out this feature in testing future condensers, and have replaced same by a simple time test of ten minutes at 450 Volts A.C.

Condensers, therefore, which were actually broken down by flashing under 400 volts A.C. will be our scrap, but since the fittings remain good, the condensers should be returned with instructions to S.E.C. to use them up.

I am returning herewith the 14 condensers dealt with as above, the whole of which must be returned to S.E.C. with copy of my remarks as given above, in order that they may put right the four condensers which are satisfactory so far as capacity and insulation is concerned, and deal with the broken down condensers as suggested. We have numbered all the condensers in black-lead pencil on the brass fitting, so that if the small cardboards are displaced they will still be recognisable. Care must therefore be taken not to efface the pencil figures referred to.
