| To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hotel de France Chateauroux(French test region) Indre 15/4/29 39 We have run 185 miles at a lower speed while waiting for the front damper, to verify our investigations on the slipper wheel and oil pump. We are now satisfied with the setting of the spring drive, but not quite with the slipper wheel. We should like a heavier rim to obtain more even slipping with a load of 10 lbs. We then belive our slight galloping knock would vanish without bringing up the crankshaft period. We find that if a lower poundage is used we at once notice the crank period. Our present setting during the milage run is giving constant results. We are gradually increasing the oil supply to the getten ducks of the servo with not any serious loss in efficency. The servo works very smoothly and we belive it will be a success. There are no rattles from the oil pump gears with the higher oil pressure, therefore we are anxious to try the lower rated spring I asked for. [Handwritten: RM {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} does not agree] We are still without news of the damper which of course is delaying the various tests, also the bearing for the starter motor. We are doing all we can in the meantime. Enclosed you will find a sketch of the extra baffle we fitted before receiving the letter from Hobson's. We should suggest, if it is not allready done, that the glass tube for the telegauge be frosted where the cement joint is made to ensure a better grip for the cement and less chance of an air leak.
