| To Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. x7941 Hotel de France Chateauroux(French test region) Indre 9/4/29 We have received your letter of the 6 th April. The Bijur system has been reported as unsatisfactory because of the following. The feed to the rear shock dampers connecting links was not enough, the Bijurs passing 2 drops per one stroke of the pump. The supply to the clutch trunnion was nil. This Bijur we have dispatched to you. The supply to the servo was nil. The supply to the starter meter approximatly nil 1 drop per 2 strokes of the pump. This was increased imediately upon our arrival here. The supply to the read springs is ample. The Chart sent out does not give the values of Bijurs D2,DO and DI. We have wired to you the failure of the front N/S shock damper casing. We do not belive the cause of the failure is due to the cross steering tube fouling same. The dampers are having more work to do owing to the increased flexibility of the lubricated read springs and as reported we have been hitting the front buffers frequently, therefore it would seem that the casing is not as yet strong enough for rough work. We have dismantled the front engine case to examine the slipper wheel. The poundage of the slipper wheel had not altered from the setting given to it at Derby. We have however found that due to the expansion of the crankcase the crank pinion has been rubbing rather hard on the end bearing cap all round. We are correcting this and will inform you, whether this has been the cause of the spring drive rattle. We are at the moment examining the various parts of the car. G.W.H. | ||
