B.60 & B.80 CAMSHAFTS.

On B.80 No.1 we experienced trouble due to the fact that the camshaft had no release hole at the rear end thus trapping oil in the space between the camshaft end and the rear cover.

This caused the camshaft to ride forward with the result that the tappet edges were riding on the radius at the side of the camshaft journals.

We recently had a similar experience on an experimental Monikrome camshaft in a Bentley V unit whereby sufficient load was created by the trapped oil to distort the face of the end cover and cause it to leak.

In view of the above, therefore, will you please incorporate the release hole on the detail drawing and on any camshafts that are already made before they are fitted into engines in accordance with ECD.436.
