| -2- RM {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 8/R.13.4.30. In view of the foregoing, our recommendations are that the cam balancer, which costs, approximately, 50/-, should not be fitted or produced for the first 100 Wraith cars, though we agree to provision being made for it on the crankcase as an insurance policy. With the improved cam wheel material and higher axle ratio, we find it difficult to believe that a customer who drives his car normally is likely to suffer from timing gear rattles, but the fact that excessive wear can take place if the engine is run continuously at maximum revs, is regarded as very serious. The basic solution of the problem would appear to lie in altering the behaviour of the front end of the crankshaft. It would be fortunate if any cure we evolved was so simple that it could be fitted to the first 100 Wraith chassis now being built. Another report will be issued shortly on the Wraith crankshaft oscillations, measurements of which we have been recording. RM. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
