E.4/HP.27.1.34. re Front Floor. - Bentley. Referring to our conversation concerning the above, and two memos Bly. {B. W. Bleaney - Bentley Sales} 4/HEM.15.1.34 and EV. {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} 5/HP.19.1.34, we have been into the question of providing a well for the passengers feet and are issuing a design covering this - Lec.3781 to RHC {R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} 's department direct so that the next sets of sheet metal boards can be made up in this way. Actually the possibility of this feature being necessary was realised some time ago, but with the composite floorboards we considered the complication of including another well would be too great. This is not the case, however, when using sheet metal with all the features pressed in the one sheet. We should like to provide a well for the passenger exactly similar to that at present provided for the driver. This however would foul the brake gear and balance lever anchorage, and we have been compelled to shorten the well 1" at the rear and on this account. For the sake of symmetry we are, therefore, making up a sample board with both wells shortened 1" and if it is found that this cramps the driver's feet we shall revert in our instructions to the present well on the driver's side only. Another feature we are dealing with on Lec.3781 is a simplification in the shape of a pressing where the sheet metal flows from the front inner corner of the well into the abutment for clearing the clutch cover. Now that the effect of the two wells is to generally lower the floor at the front we are running the shape of the central tunnel into the abutment clearing the clutch cover and are thereby obtaining a simpler form of pressing. We believe this will also be of assistance in making up the shape of the carpets to fit these front floorboards. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
