We send herewith N.Sch.4869 showing the rear brake equaliser. The travel of the idler lever is limited by a stop so that in the event of a failure of any of the linkage behind the idler the front brakes are still available. The idler lever could have been anchored more simply to the equaliser, but we think that this would not have complied with the regulations proposed by the Minister of Transport. The idler lever serves a further purpose in maintaining correct equalisation whatever the difference in wear of the two brakes. There is actually a slight increase of load on the brake least worn due to the connecting link being shorter than the equaliser arm. We have had to make slight alterations to the front silencer to give sufficient clearance for the brake rope. E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /HDY. {William Hardy} N.Sch.4869 herewith. | ||
