Hancock - Head Chateauroux} from Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 5/KT.31.1.33. We are sending you a note from BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} which is self explanatory and two mouldings for the radiator support for the 40/50. Will you please take the first opportunity to try these out on 19-EX. Thank you for your note of the 29th. We are very interested in this 50 m.p.h. boom. The flywheel period on Peregrine(Experimental Bentley car never produced / Aero Engine) is approx. at 4000 r.p.m. which is 65 m.p.h. on top gear, or 48 m.p.h. in 3rd. We do not know what the 50 m.p.h. period in top gear can be, unless it is due to the flywheel we have put on your propeller shaft causing some trouble. Alternatively it might be an exhaust boom, but we doubt this. Anyhow, doubtless you will be able to tell us shortly, more about it. With regard to the oil temperature, the results are interesting. There are one or two experiments you could carryout to help us :- (1) How much Potts cooler do you need to bring the temperature down to 70°C on your high speed runs? (2) It may be that the efficiency of the radiator is a disadvantage. If you block your radiator shutters open and get a big oil temperature drop, we should be interested to know the figures. (3) We should like to know the effect on oil temperature by running with the most and the least oil in the system you can manage. | ||
