These linings are too hard and soon produce squeaking. When taken down we found metal embedded in the liners similar to that reported of the rear. The brake drums were ridged. We had Ferodo liners fitted to the front before handing the car over to Sales.

FRONT AXLE CONTROL. LOP.G.77990.

The control of the front axle is very good. There has not been any sign of winding up of the front springs. We have not detected any faults or weakness in the control brackets.

REAR AXLE. 16/52 RATIO. LOP. G.74002.

There has been no trouble with the axle. It has maintained its quietness and we cannot detect any signs of wear in bearings. The driving dogs were noisy when running slow at the period when low torque of engine was uneven.

REAR BRAKES. LOP. G.74003 (FOOT)

Raybestos Linings G.4575.

The brakes remained good for braking power throughout the test. They were inclined to squeak at times. The Raybestos lining appears to be too hard. It picks up shreads of steel from the drums causing the brake drum surface to become more ridged than when using Ferodo linings. The bolts K.236 holding brake strap joints at either side were broken off, the nuts fouling the brackets of the Hartford shock dampers on the rebound. The total adjustment of the brakes was two serrations.

REAR SPRINGS & FITTINGS. LOP. F.78030.

1550 lbs. Firths springs F.78264.

Rear clip removed from rear half of spring to clear body mounting bracket. There has been no trouble with the rear springs and they have not taken any set. The buffer clearance was the same at the finish of test vis: 4.00" and 4.200". Although the rear clip was removed to give clearance for the body mounting the spring had fouled this, cutting into the bracket. This can only happen when the rear of the car is swayed over such as when cornering, a rebound taking place at the same moment. The clearance was verified before the test by pulling the car down on to the buffers. Examination of the springs without dismantling did not reveal any flaws.

PETROL TANK. LOP. F.7804 N.S.2497.

The filters were examined at the start of the test. The reserve filter was covered with a fluffy material. The main had a small amount. At 5000 and 9000 miles they were again examined and were found perfectly clean. We have used the reserve frequently, changing over when there
