| To Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Handwritten: Hoaracon By Hotel de France Chateauroux(French test region) Indres 28/3/29 We arrived at Chateauroux(French test region) along with Mr Elliot on Monday evening and on Tuesday we took Mr Elliot to Paris returning to Chateauroux(French test region) the same evening. We have since been throughly examining the car. We found that the ball ends on the cross steering tube had not received any oil whatsoever and were badly galled up. We have taken out the plungers in the Bijurs suppling these ball ends, to ensure a good supply of oil. Handwritten note in margin: Rycs[ Please note that the cross steering tube on the full rebound has been fouling the front shock damper casings. The out cut controls appear to be too weak, both rods being found bent which caused the cut out valve to rattle. The loss of oil from the rear axle has been one pint. The loss of oil from the gear box seems to be little although all the joints show leakings of oil. The mechanics joint on the propeller shaft are retaining the oil better by using a thicker oil. We found that the loss had been approximately one third of the amount they require. Examination of the brakes shew that we are getting better braking on the rear but still too much on the front, the shoes showing very hard wear, in fact on returning from Paris to Chateauroux(French test region) the front was dangerous. We do not appear to have throughly overcome the leakage of oil from the engine but more knowledge of this will be gained during our milage. If we are to retain this car for any lengh of time will you please let us have a correct set of Bijurs along with a chart showing the relative positions. At the present time some are giving too much others none at all. They are not in a correct proportion. The silencer pipe already shews signs of distortion and has now taken a set having pulled out of the silencer half an inch. Handwritten note in margin: SS {S. Smith} A very bad spring drive period has developed and a crank period is very noticable. The rear spring clips we were able to tighten up from one to two complete turns of the nut. The front were O.K. Cont. | ||
