We send herewith N.Sch.5035 showing a modification to the second motion shaft to provide more depth of shoulder for the location of the rearmost bearing. We have secured this improvement at the expense of the shoulder for the washer at the front end of the 2nd speed pinion. However, this still has the two keys and is loaded by the over-run only. If necessary we can run the other four keys through at a reduced height to support the washer, but we do not wish to do this until it appears that we must. This drawing shows an increased thread diameter and reduced bore of the shaft to deal with the trouble experienced on the Phantom III with the nut. The thread is now right hand. A standard lock nut should be tried in place of the special nickel steel nuts at present used on the 2nd speed pinion. N.Sch.5035.herewith. E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /HDY. {William Hardy} | ||
