| X3603 ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. OY2- Mr. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls Royce Limited, Derby, England. March 8th, 1929. cc - Mr. Bailey London File Dear Mr. Hives: CENTRAL LUBRICATION - SECTION 7141 Replying to Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Gyl/LH {Mr Haworth} 14.2.29. (1) Drip Plug Rates. Our original list obtained from Bijur was given in OY1, April 14th/27. Bijur has apparently increased the flow on the larger drip plugs since that time. Comparison with actual test follows:- Oil: Mobiloil A. {Mr Adams} Pressure produced by pump: 90 lbs/sq.in. General temperature: 79ºF. {Mr Friese} SIZE Discharge Nominal cc/minute Discharge Actual cc/minute 00 .03 .046 0 .08 -- 1 .15 .178 2 .25 .272 3 .40 .71 4 .63 1.30 5 1.00 -- 6 1.50 2.96 Percentage variation. Numerous tests show a max. variation in discharge rate of ±10% down to size #1. ±30% on size 1, and ±50% on size 00. (2) Return of Plunger. At 70ºF and with engine "cold", i.e. not recently run, the plunger return time (for 14cc pump) with Mobiloil A appears to vary on different chassis between 50 secs. and 75 secs. -continued- | ||
