| To Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. Hotel de France Chateauroux(French test region) Indre 29/3/29 We have today started on our 10,000 miles test, after attention to the car generally. The chief cause of the starter motor failure we find was due to the pinion piece [handwritten correction: wheel] having become badly burred. From what we can see by test and otherwise the pinion is case-hardened aparently not sufficiently to prevent the teeth becoming damaged. After fitting it up with a spare pinion it worked satisfactorily, during the morning run but has again failed we have not as yet found this cause but it would appear to be electricel [handwritten correction: electrical]. We shall endeavour to find out and will let you know the results as soon as possible. We have not as yet received the Castrol "R" oil for lubrication purposes. We found it necessary to adjust the front brakes 2 notches and the rear 1 notch on the adjustment. Daily reports will now follow onward. [Handwritten notes:] seen E.F.C EFC {E.
