| STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL To Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 4/T5.1.31. Re 20/25 HP. Following on my memo Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 4/T4.1.31. I think it would be helpful if I gave you a programme that I have prepared to work to for the improved 20/25 if decided upon. (1) We should be able to get all the drawings for patterns from WW. and Derby, such as crankcases, wheelcases and gearboxes into the Pattern Shop by the end of February, both for right hand and left hand type. It is important in this connection, for our designers to make the right hand and left hand as common as possible to both, so that there is the least modifications and alterations on the two types. I believe it is possible for WW. to give us these drawings by the end of February. (2) By the end of April we must have all big patterns finished and castings produced. (3) By the closest co-operation between WW. and Derby we should be able to know generally of the further alterations and modifications that are to take place by the end of March. For instance, I believe there is talk of the possibility of making the Banjo Type of Rear Axle, which would, of course, cut costs quite a bit, and also Radiator with loose shell, and generally go right over the whole of the chassis in order to simplify and cut out many parts we now make, or if not cut them out, to simplify them, so that the cost of production can be drastically cut without sacrificing quality in the slightest. I am sure that, providing we put all our draughtsmen at work going over the whole of the chassis, as mentioned above, we should be able to produce a specification of the complete chassis by the end of March. (4) The above would enable the Experimental Dept. to get everything moving rapidly by the end of May for both right and left hand chassis. Main castings would be machined and also the major parts of chassis ready for assembly by the end of May. (5) We should then be able to get both experimental chassis built by the end of June ready for test. (6) Bodies for both right and left hand chassis should be ordered in May. (7) The 10,000 miles test should be run and finished in July. | ||
