Wraith II Gearbox. Further to E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /HDY. {William Hardy} 2/HP.2.2.37, the suggestion has been made by E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /Psn. that the synchromesh gear actuating stirrups should be made of cast iron instead of mild steel as instructed on the above memo. To enable this to be tried we send herewith N.Sch. 5048 which shows what we suggest when this idea is applied to the 2nd speed. The stirrup is widened for greater strength. If successful on the 2nd speed we should apply it to the 3rd speed, but in this case the application is not as easy. This drawing also shows how the fork on the 2nd speed sliding rod should be modified now that there is no retaining plate attached (see E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /HDY. {William Hardy} 2/HP.17.2.37).
