| contd :- -10- The electrical system generally has given no trouble. BATTERY IN FRAME. LOP. F.77455 N.S. 2224 The anchorage of the battery remained O.K. It was not possible to disceren any deterioration. The tapered packings do not remain tight. Each time battery was examined these were loose. It is impossible to extract the batteries from the case on this car, the bodywork not giving sufficient room. The connections and wires are in good condition. SCUTTLE ISOLATION DAMPER LOP. F.78302. N.S.2484. The damper has prevented the scuttle from jellying sideways but from observation appeared to make the top of the scuttle jelly upwards. One could observe distinctly the top of scuttle moving up and down from underneath and before we gave more clearance between the frame work and the dashboard, it caused knocks. It does not hold the scuttle from moving in a parallel direction which it was observed to do. This was probably the movement of the dashoard. The bodywork generally has remained in very good condition. The front wings, as reported, are useless with a side wind, the mud and water being flung on to the windscreen. The chief fault with this appears to be the insufficient lip underneath the wings. It is too small and narrow to keep the mud from being flung over the edge of the wings and is mostly found choked with dirt. The rear wing stays broke off where attached to frame, the lug being too weak for the job. We also notice that the coachbuilders will not fit bolts with a sufficient area of head, to prevent them pulling through the wings. This trouble always appears and larger bolts have to be fitted. The bottom portion of the wings cracked, from the centre of the holding-down bolt. There was a strengthening disc underneath but this was not sufficient, the cracks going through and either side of it. The front of the body chattered so badly through the springs being too weak that it was decided to hold it down on the rubber blocks moreorless solid. This stopped the chattering. The top deck carrying the rear windscreen collapsed owing to the hinges breaking. These were made of very poor material. the top deck over the rear seats very quickly started to chatter, the lugs holding same wearing away. These were also a poor job. This deck is continually moving sideways and produces a chatter. The rear pannel covering the hood is too flexible and is continually knocking, the ends flexing up and down. The tail portion of the body apparently saggs down but does not take any set. The inner sheetmetal cracked where it passed over the crossmember otherwise the tail is in very good condition. The illuminated rear number is very good but better provision is needed for the lamp, it was too close to the tyre when closed. contd :- | ||
