Wraith III Gearbox.

We send herewith N.Sch.5177 showing further modifications to the top and 3rd speed rocking shaft to improve the ease of forging.

This scheme cancels the rocking shaft shown by N.Sch.5055.

As it is unlikely that this rocking shaft will be applicable, without modification, to the common box, and as dies have already been sunk for the original brazed scheme as shown by OL.826, we suggest that detailing of the new scheme is withhold until it is known whether the Wraith box will go into production or not. In any case N.Sch.5055 is not to be proceeded with.

As regards the new scheme, if it is thought that it will be difficult to keep the hole for the long setscrew sufficiently parallel to the axis of rocking shaft we can increase the diameter of the screwed part and the tapping hole to .4375 if necessary, leaving the fitting end of the pin .250. As shown the two tapped holes are the same size.

N.Sch.5177 herewith.

E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /HDY. {William Hardy}
