Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Cx. {Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager} Hdy. {William Hardy} X7310 (Handwritten) 4704 (Handwritten) re Second Speed Synchromesh. Replying to the query in your memo Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 17/E.29.1.34, we expect to have the major portion of the design work for P.2. second speed synchromesh issued by the end of this week, and the remainder by the end of the following week as regards the gearbox. This gearbox is 2 1/4" longer than the standard P.2. and the servo centre is approaching half an inch further back. Some alterations will, therefore, be required to the chassis and these will be proceeded with as soon as the gearbox information is issued. This design as made can be readily converted to central change by bolting on to the top facing provided, a change speed lever, gate, and spindle. With regard to the synchromesh second speed for the 20/25, we have of course already got the gearbox and this is being run in the Vulture(Experimental 6 CYL OHV LONG STROKE / Aero Engine) chassis. It remains therefore to suitably mount this gearbox in the J.3. frame with a 20/25 engine, for which also requires design attention. the mounting This work will be proceeded with now that we have completed the instructions for the immediate 20/25 chassis for 10,000 mile test.
