Messrs Jonas Woodhead & Sons Ltd.,
Kinstall Road,
LEEDS 4.

For the attention of Mr. Saunders.

Dear Sirs,

The attached figures show that the eyes on the 4 top plates which you recently supplied to FW.754 are very far from being round. You mentioned on the telephone that your eyes should come within a limit of .005". One of these eyes is .040" out of round. We are told that the Americans can produce eyes to .002" without machining.

We should like to know if you consider that these eyes are a mistake or whether we must expect your eyes to have such large inaccuracies.

Will you please produce for us a further two pair of springs to FW.754 1100 lbs. The lubrication for the small eye to be as shown on FW.754. That is with horizontal drilling in the top plate. The bore for the spring eyes should be un-machined. One pair should have a Humber polished unplated finish and the other pair polished and cadmium plated throughout. All other details should be similar to the springs you have already supplied to FW.754.

We are despatching four lubricators for the end of the spring having the large eye.

Will you please do your utmost to urge completion of these springs.

We are rather astonished that the Bentley springs have not yet arrived.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
