| HS {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X5770 To. Mor. from Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Mr. HOY. re 20/25' Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 15/S22.4.31 Many thanks for Mor6/T20.4.31. I am glad to note you agree that, in view of the circumstances, we ought to introduce into "E" Series as many features as possible which will have the good effect of improving the performance and appearance of the car. With regard to radiators, dashboard and body commitments, it is always very difficult to say how far ahead we are committed for bodies because coachbuilders build for stock without actual orders from us. Any alteration to the chassis which affects bodies is always very troublesome because it frightens the coachbuilders from ordering chassis for stock and because of changes, and as they form our most important retailers such changes are apt to have an unfortunate reaction on the business. The real point is that, whilst I am anxious to see the lower radiator introduced, it would not worry me in the least if the wider and altered dashboard were not introduced. We none of us really like the bonnet of 18-G-4, which you will remember had a very flat appearance on the top. One of the points that I really, therefore, wanted to discuss with HY {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} was whether we could not have the improved shape radiator, i.e. slightly dropped through the frame without necessarily having the modified dash. The former helps the appearance but the latter is not of much consequence. There is another item which I believe was on 18-G-4 but was not referred to on the list I sent and that is the diamond engine mounting. Doubtless I shall hear from you shortly as to when it is proposed that HY {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} and Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} should come up about this matter. Sg. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} | ||
