(2) Auto Tappets:-

with the present scheme fitted there is too much oil in circulation on the top of the cylinder head. This has been brought about by the clearances having to be greater in the eccentric bearings than necessary, owing to the distortion of the rocker shaft, and the unsatisfactory supply of oil to the plungers. this excess of oil on the hot cylinder top is another reason for the high oil temp.

(3) Piston friction:-

with a higher revving engine the piston friction is greater, with a consequent rise in oil temperature.

EXTRA OIL TO CYLINDER LUBRICATION.

with the fitting of the damper control on the quadrant of the steering, the starting, extra oil, and strong mixture are combined on the control on the instrument board. With this scheme the original idea of being able to leave the extra oil on until the engine had warmed up is deleted. is this desirable?
