Wraith II Gearbox.

We send herewith LeC.5212 showing the change gear gate and gear lever.

There is, with this scheme, only one universal joint which is at the gearbox end. This has already been tried out experimentally and was reported on in Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Ory.14/KM.2.7.36.

A spring ring is provided to hold the ball cage in place when in top and 3rd speeds, and thus prevent the complaint referred to in Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /FJH. {Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} 3/JH.10.7.36 from arising.

A split sleeve placed over the shaft and passed into the bore of the oil retaining cap will assist in the erection of the gate true with the shaft. The single ball bearing will allow considerable variation from correct alignment, but this must not be allowed to influence the setting of the gate on the frame which should give as good an alignment as is practicable.

The gearbox end of the gear lever shaft is shown on M.Sch.4942.

E {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} /HDY. {William Hardy}

LeC.5212 herewith.
