The spring clips have remained secure throughout the test. The front and rear anchorage from outside examination appear to be in good condition. We have not experienced heavy hitting of the buffers during the test.

Front shock dampers.

Hydraulic shock dampers arranged in accordance with scheme E.X.1692 also air release scheme to arrgt.drg. F.74419. These continued to function satisfactorily up to 9000 miles approx. At this mileage the O.S. damper failed. The lever on shaft broke through one corner of the square. The head of the bolt was also broken off. It is probable that the bolt failed in the first instance and was the cause of the failure of the lever. We have had oil leaks from the bearing of O.S. damper and from top valve cap on N.S. It has been necessary to re-charge these with oil due to the leaks.

Clutch.

The clutch has been erratic in stopping throughout the test. We have not been able to effect a cure by adjusting the levers. The action of the clutch when engaging has been smooth and no signs of slipping has occurred.

Gearbox.

All gearbox joints fitted with Vellumoid washers to L.O.P. G.51570. There are oil leaks from top cover of change speed tower and from housing of operating shaft to servo on O.S. There is also a leak of oil from the housing of the speedometer drive. The side shaft and gears have remained good, at no time has any gear worked out of position.

Gear change mechanism.

This has functioned quite O.K. throughout the test. At high speeds it chatters sideways in the quadrant and has caused slight wear to take place.

Servo and Servo gears.

The servo and its mechanism has remained in a very good condition. It has operated quite satisfactorily throughout the test. It has not been necessary to adjust the cams and no wear is perceptible.

Pedals.

These are in good condition and have given no trouble.

Starter Motor.

As previously reported, this has been erratic in action throughout the test. This has been dismantled and examined to obtain the cause of the failure. We are of the opinion
