10. GEARBOX. The ball bearings in 20/25 gearbox are housed in steel shells whereas P. 2. has no steel shells. If 20/25 was made like P. 2. a saving could be made:
Material 6. 4.
Nett labour 2. 7.
Total nett saving 8. 11.

DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} agreed to make design.

11. GEARBOX. The oil filler which is also the level indicator is rather an expensive piece to produce. P. 2. has a plug on top and dip stick for level gauge. If 20/25 was made like P. 2. the following saving could be made:
Material 8
Nett labour 1. 8½
Total nett saving 2. 4½

DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} agreed to make design.

12. STEP IRONS. These are made in nickel steel. Experimental sets were made in mild steel and passed 10,000 mile test satisfactorily. If mild steel can be used instead of nickel steel the saving would amount to:
4. 7.

DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} will get out design suitable for producing in mild steel.
BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} said that the present design is too weak in the bend for mild steel production as when toolboxes are carried in the steps the load is heavy.

13. RADIATOR. The rubber connections between cylinder head and radiator are mounted on special extension pieces attached by unions. If these parts were deleted and a plain piece of pipe used instead, as is already used at the bottom radiator connection a saving as follows could be made:
Material 2. 11.
Nett labour 5
Total nett saving 3. 4.

Decided to leave these unions for the time being. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} will consider the question.

14. WHEELS & HUBS. The Dunlop wheels and hubs which we fit cost approximately £30. per set. It may be worth while considering wheels and hubs of Rudge-Whitworth type. It is stated that Dunlops can supply this type if necessary. The Rudge-Whitworth wheels should cost about £9 per set. Ldggs Dept. will consider this question. Appl. Dept. will get in touch with Rudge-Whitworth and inspect wheels used for racing cars.
