The following are features of the above which are of importance to the performance of this type of head and be included in the patent application. (1) The transfer throat in the cylinder head (as shown at section AA {D. Abbot Anderson} on attached print) to cover an area not less than 15% of the piston bore area to avoid excessive turbulence (as opposed to Ricardo's claim of creating it). (2) The position of the sparking plug relative to the inlet valve. We should cover any position where the spark plug points or the plug hole in the chamber comes within a distance equivalent to 50% of the cylinder bore from the periphery of the inlet valve head. We cannot use the plug near the exhaust valve where recommended by Ricardo. (3) The fact that inlet valve arrangement in the head is arranged so that if stuck in the fully open position would not foul the piston at T.D.C. (4) To increase the compression ratio and yet adhere to the existing proportions of the cylinder head by local raising of the piston crown. This will mean departing from claim (3). (5) To cover within 25%, the plan proportions of the cylinder head and its position relative to the centre line of the bore, this view is shown on EOD.525.
