X.4069. RE BRUSH SPRINGS FOR GOSHAWK(Aero Engine)(Codename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after Kestrel(Aero Engine)) MOTOR
X.4333. & DYNAMO.

Recently we have noticed that the springs fitted to the dynamo and motor are rather too strong and on taking this up with Mr. Davis, he has got Mr. Goodall of the Inspection Dept. to measure the tension of a number of these taken at random, in the set up position. This has been found to be anything from 1 lb. 6 ozs. to 1 lb.10 ozs, whereas a tension of only 1 lb. is specified on the drawing. Mr. Goodall assures us that the original sample springs were correct. Therefore, it appears to us to be up to the makers to put this matter right. For the time being we must carry on with the stronger springs, though we consider the tension too great both for the motor and dynamo.

Could you kindly take steps to have this matter rectified ?

We suggest that limits should be given to the makers of 1 lb. +- 2 ozs, to which the spring should conform.
