IMPROVED R.R. SHOCK ABSORBERS. A difficulty has arisen with regard to the setting of the poundages on the new dampers with the cast iron ends. With the cast iron valve seats the effective area of the valve exposed to the oil has been increased. This was done in order to keep the valve spring the same length, but it upsets all our existing charts of spring loading, etc. We therefore recommend that these damper ends should be altered so that the effective valve area is the same as at present, and the spring length is kept the same by alteration to the valve cap, unless some better method could be devised.
