| Contd. -2- CK {Mr Clark} 2/T2.3.20. happens to be about right, as it establishes the correct voltages on the transformer terminals and gives just the 450 volts required for the condenser testing. On allowing a solid lump of iron to approach the pole pieces of R, the choking effect is so much increased as to reduce the condenser voltage to 300, and the lamps of course are a rough indication of the voltage which is being applied to the condenser. The additional apparatus which is necessary for this purpose merely consists of two boards B and C with the necessary holders, lamps, fuses and double pole switch, also a laminated yoke for the magnet R. {Sir Henry Royce} At the present moment we have only been able to try a solid lump of iron which of course gets unduly heated, owing to the eddy currents. The poles of the magnets and the laminated yoke should be faced up so as to make very good magnetic contact. The board C might perhaps be dispensed with, but as it does not involve any very elaborate apparatus, we think it would be worth while using this board. Ck. {Mr Clark} | ||
