WRAITH III - GEARBOX INSTALLATION.

Please receive herewith :-

G.CD.639 Layout showing the impossibility of installing the B.50 gearbox in the present Wraith III chassis.

The larger diameter servo in a more backward position, and the position of the change gear lever shaft, are the two main limiting factors.

The gearbox must be withdrawn a distance of approx. 1.200" before the main shaft is clear of its splines; to do this a very large hole is required in the side plate of the cruciform member. Even then it is impossible to rotate the gearbox in order to get the servo clear of the side plate, and this being so the box cannot be withdrawn the necessary 4 3/4" required for removals.

The position of the change gear lever shaft is lower compared with the present Wraith, and fouls the top plate of the cruciform member.

We have ascertained that an overdrive can be provided in the present Wraith III gearbox, so that the need for the new box to provide this feature on Wraith is not now urgent.

It is probable that when the B.50 box is put into Wraith, we shall also have a new frame which can be designed to take that box.
