| -2- high speeds by smaller exhaust valve and slightly smaller inlet valve. The full throttle distribution on the Japan(Experimental Engine) engine is very good indeed at all speeds, indicated by a consistent power drop on cutting out individual cylinders. To obtain this good distribution it has been found necessary to fit a baffle at the mouth of the slot in the induction pipe, so as to reduce the effective length of the slot to 3.300" from 3.500". The nozzle is omitted. The Japan(Experimental Engine) engine appears to be less troubled with detonations than the amine engine, but this point is to be carefully considered in future tests. Further tests are to be carried out to ascertain the factors responsible for the higher power output of this engine. Hm {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} /GIP. | ||
