EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 4/T31.12.25. -3- Contd.

The battery E.M.F. of 16.8 volts is only quite a temporary E.M.F. due to gases on the plates, and very quickly falls to only 13 volts or so when the charging current goes off, or to some intermediate value when the current is reduced. Nevertheless, it is necessary to reach this E.M.F. occasionally in order that the battery may now and again have a complete charge.
