| X5770. Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} To HY {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} from Sec. Copy to Secy. E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re Second Half of "Y" Series. Ref: I/H14.10.31 Replying to HY. {Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} 18/G.Y.10. I note that you are assuming that a front apron will be fitted to the above chassis similar to that produced by the Experimental Dept. and fitted to the car that went to France. You are quite correct in this assumption. The reason why nothing has been said about it definitely is because I recently asked O. {Mr Oldham} for the price and he was unable to give it me because he said that there was no design. Then later I heard that there was a design - one which you had done but that one had not been made, and the latest proposal was, I think, that one away to your design should be fitted to another experimental car (? 13 - 0 - 4) with a view to selecting the one which came out the more economically. I also gathered that there was practically no difference in the appearance. I think Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} understands the point about the gap between the apron and the shutters but we shall have to be very careful to keep this small - otherwise the improved appearance obtained with the apron would be partly lost.
