| X5040 E.Dept. Mr. Sit. c.Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ******** BYS/H. 30.8.27. ************** 20 HP. ENGINE. PISTONS. RE FIT OF GUDGEON PIN. ******************************************* I wish to confirm my verbal instructions that 20 sets of pistons should be fitted up on the 20 HP. engine, in accordance with our present practice for the Phantom, and to the actual dimensions already instructed from E.Dept. in response to my request. The object of the modification is to do away with the tendency for the gudgeon pin to hold the piston in a distorted position. As soon as MX. {John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} is satisfied that the dimensions and fit are correct, we propose to come on to this method as standard, as our present method of locating the gudgeon pin creates so many difficulties as the result of the piston distortion set up.
