SPRING DRIVE & DAMPING FLYWHEEL.

Referring to the Flywheel Stud E.50018, and the proposal to lock same by expanding the end of the Stud with a Mandril driven in to a .080" hole, I would like you to watch this particular point, as it does not appear to me that the proposition as it stands is likely to be of any real value. It is difficult to imagine the end of the stud being expanded, as shown on the drawing, in the manner indicated.

We notice by reference to the Lec, and to our details, that the Starting Dog screws up against a red fibre washer, or what we assume to be red fibre owing to the dimensions of same. I think this is wrong, as if the fibre is moist when it is erected it is likely to shrink in service, owing to the warmth, and allowing the Starting Dog Nut to get loose. I therefore propose trying a soft aluminium washer of smaller dimensions, which could be produced from an aluminium tube.
