| c. Rm. {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 406. DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 3/G.27.3.39. BENTLEY V. {VIENNA} HAND BRAKE. Please receive herewith blueprints of G.CD.1289, Modified Shield for Trigger Mechanism on Hand Brake Lever. The thickness has been increased to .064 to avoid damage by stones, and instead of a pressed pot being provided at the lower end, a plain bending is shewn, which it is suggested has the double advantage of avoiding splitting during pressing and allowing sand etc. which accumulates in the pot, to fall away freely. We have called for S/DS. because of the sharp bend in the corners, but if S/MD. is suitable, it would be tougher. Please instruct for inspection and experiment. The modification would be adopted also for Wraith if found an improvement. I M.W Any good DA. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Have discussed this with Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} & with AFM. {Anthony F. Martindale} & it is agreed that the shield be omitted altogether until an improved ratchet mechanism is available. BBX gave considerable less trouble without a Shield during last 5000 miles running.
